Most of us are familiar with the concept of “Hygge”, but did you know that there is a similar term that originated somewhere closer to home?
“Klys” is the Cornish word that bears a similar meaning to the highly popularised Danish term. And since we are a family business from Cornwall, we thought we’d shift the focus a little bit this autumn to give you the A-Z on how to achieve the perfect "klysful" night in.
Set the scene
Ambience is essential to get you into the “klysful” spirit. Here are a few tips to help you get it right!
Mood lighting: ditch the harsh overhead lights and bring out your favourite scented candles and battery operated fairy lights (or dust off the old Christmas lights, we won’t tell). They give out a soft glowing light and create a cosy, intimate space where you can relax and unwind with ease.
Build a pillow den: grab as many pillows and blankets as you can and turn the sofa into a soft, comfy den of relaxation. There’s nothing like the feeling you get when you sink back into layers and layers of cloud-like comfort. If you have pets, don’t be surprised if they join you for a snuggle! In fact, it makes it all the more “klysful”!
Optional: if you have the option, light the fire and turn up the cosy dial!
Unplug: put the phone on mute, disconnect from social media feeds and lock the door to the outside world. Relish in some much deserved “me time”!
Pick a cosy activity
Settle in for the evening with your favourite film, box set or that book you’ve been waiting to read for ages. Use this time to relish in the simple pleasures of life. If you’re spending this time with family or friends, bring out the board games and get into deep conversations about life!
Wear something cosy
For a completely “klysful” experience, don’t forget to put on your cosiest pyjamas or woolly jumper and slip on your favourite slippers. These handpicked slippers are super warm and comfy, perfect for curling up by the fire.
Indulge
Hot drinks are a “klys” and winter staple. It’s time to put the kettle on and get your favourite brew going - coffee, tea or hot chocolate will help you warm up on a chilly night.
Optional: Add some cinnamon, pumpkin spice or honey to your drink of choice for an extra touch of cosy exuberance.
Comfort food, freshly baked scones can only add to the experience. A hearty bowl of soup or a winter casserole will warm your body and soul, and an indulgent slice of saffron cake will be the cherry on top.'p>
Now, doesn’t that make you look forward to winter?
